You can use this tab to specify databases that Locate uses in searches. Databases are shown in the list.
Databases currently in used:
This list shows databases which are used for the meantime.
The check box in the list specifies whether the database is enabled (i.e., used for searches) and,
if "Update globally" state is "Yes", the database will be updated when
"Update databases" command is chosen.
The list typically shows databases which settings are stored in the Windows registry
and are used in normal operation. However, if you have used command line arguments
('-D' or '-d') to specify any databases, databases that are shown in the list shows are those given
by the command line arguments. In that case, you can discard the databases given in the command
line by pressing Restore button.
New: Use this button to specify a new database. This button will open Database dialog to specify the setting of the new database.
Edit: Use this button to edit the setting of the selected database. This button will open Database dialog.
Remove: Use this button to remove the selected database from the list. If the database file is exists in the disk, Locate will ask you that do you want physically remove this file or remove only the setting from the registry.
Enable and Disable: Use these buttons to enable and disable selected database. If a database is enabled, it will be used in normal searches (when you press Find Now button or Enter). This enabled/disabled state do not have effect on the "Update databases" command.
Global U.: Use this button to change the update globally state for the selected database. If this state is enabled, the database will be updated when "Update databases" command is chosen.
Up and Down: Use these buttons to move selected databases up or down in the list. If multiple threads are used, these Up and Down buttons can be used to switch between threads.
Import: Use this button to import the settings from the existing database file.
Export: Use this button to export the settings to a file. You can use this button when you have changed the setting of the database and you want merge the settings to the existing database file without overwriting the content of database (e.g., using "Update databases" command).
Threads used for updating: You can use threads to parallelize the update process. For example, if you have two databases, one for local drives and one for a network share or external USB drive, you can use two threads so that the first database containing the file in local drives are updated using the first thread and the second database using the another thread. Then these database will be updated simultaneously and lots of time is saved. Note: it is not reasonable to use multiple threads for drives which are physically in the same disk. Namely it is significantly slower to read the disc from two different locations at the same time.
