TITLE=Advanced tab / Settings dialog CONTENT=

Advanced Settings

The Advanced tab in the Settings dialog contains several options. You can change, for example, the behaviour of Locate32 dialog, the way how the results are shown and change the setting of the update process and tool tips. There are also some setting which have effect to the whole system.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_LOCATEPROCESS@C$

This category contains options that are related to search process and the result list.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_LIMITRESULTS@C$: This option can be used to limit the number of results. This option has only effect on normal searches (when "Find Now" or Enter is pressed), not for searches which are carried out as you type (see "Search as you type" below).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SPACEISSEPARATOR@C$: If this option is enabled, space is also considered as a separator (in addition to comma ',' and semicolon ';'). For example, if enabled, the search term "cat dog" can be used to find files which names contain words "cat" or "dog". For more information, see Search terms.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ENABLELOGICALOPERATIONS@Cp$: If this option is enabled, logical operators '+' and '-' can be used in search terms. For example, if enabled, the search term "+cat,+dog" can be used to find files which names contain the words "cat" and "dog". In addition, "+cat,-dog" will search filenames containing the word "cat" and not the work dog. See also Search terms.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ANDMODEALWAYS@C$: When enabled, all given terms should match to a file name. For example, if you type "cat, dog", Locate will find files that have both "cat" and "dog" in it's name. Instead, if this option is disabled, search terms are treated as "OR" sense, i.e., "cat, dog" will give files that have either "cat" or "dog" in it's name (or both). If this option is enabled, you can search as "OR" sense using '|' (e.g. "cat|dog"). See also Search terms.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_MATCHWHOLENAMEIFASTERISKS@C$: If this option is enabled and asterisks '*' are given in a search term, the search is carried out in same way if the Match whole name only check box is checked (i.e., a given search have to match to whole file name, not only a part of it).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_NOASTERISKTOTAILIFEXTENSIONGIVEN@C$: This option has only an effect when Match whole name only check box is not checked. If this option is enabled and you have specified an extension (i.e., given name contains dot '.'), filenames should match to this given extension. On the contrary, if this option not is enabled and you have typed, e.g., "*.txt", the mask "*.txt*" is effectively used and temporary files txt~ (among others) are also returned.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISENABLE@C$: If this option is enabled, results will be shown at the same time (or after some small delay, see below) when you start typing to "$DLGNAME_NAMED@M$" field or change change search parameters. The following options can be used to change behaviour of the "Search as you type" feature:

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISLIMIT@Cp$: This option can be used to specify limit for the number of results for "Search as you type" searches. If you don't want to use any limits, set this value to zero (0). If you want to limit the number of results for normal searches, use the "$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_LIMITRESULTS@C$" option above.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISDELAY@Cp$: This option can be used to specify the delay between time when you stop typing and time when searching is started. The unit is milliseconds (i.e., 1/1000 seconds).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISCHARS@Cp$: This option specifies how many characters should be typed "$DLGNAME_NAMED@M$" field before searching is started. Note: the character limit is valid only when the name is merely used as a search criteria. The limit is ignored if you give other criterias, for example, give extensions in "Type:" field or enter a path into "Look in:".

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISUPDOWNGOESTORESULTLIST@C$: When enabled, Up and Down keys pressed in "$DLGNAME_NAMED@M$" field will activate the results list and its first file. This option can be useful if $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ACTIVATEFIRSTITEM@C$ option is enabled and you are used to use Up and Down keys to navigate through results. Note that the results list is not activated if no results are shown.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISDISABLEIFDATASEARCH@C$: If this option is enabled, "Search as you type" is disabled when you have checked $DLGADVANCED_CONTAININGTEXT@M$ check box.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISNAMECHANGED@C$, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISTYPECHANGED@C$, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISLOOKINCHANGED@C$, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISSIZECHANGED@C$, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISDATESCHANGED@C$, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISDATACHANGED@C$ and $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISOTHERCHANGED@C$: These option can be used to specify whether the results list is updated when the "$DLGNAME_NAMED@M$" field, the "$DLGNAME_EXTENSIONS@M$" field, the "$DLGNAME_LOOKIN@M$" field, file sizes (in $STRSIZEDATE_TABCAPTION@A$ tab), files dates (in $STRSIZEDATE_TABCAPTION@A$ tab), $DLGADVANCED_CONTAININGTEXT@M$ field (in $STRADVANCED_TABCAPTION@A$ tab), or any other field is changed.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ISBYCOMMANDLINE@C$: If this option is enabled, "Search as you type" search is executed when some field is changed by using command line arguments or using shell context menus (see options under gruop "Shell context menu commands" in Advanced settings).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_RESULTSLIST@C$

This group of options can be used to change appearance and behaviour of the results list and that how files in the results list are shown.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_USECUSTOMFONTINRESULTLIST@C$: This option can be used to specify custom font for the results list (e.g., to make font smaller).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_NODELAYEDUPDATING@C$: Normally file information like title, icon, type and some other information is read after the search is finished. If this option is enabled, file these are read immediately when the file is added to the results list.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_USEGETTITLE@C$ and $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_USEOWNMETHODFORTITLE@C$: These options can be used to specify whether Locate32 uses Windows' method to form file titles (file titles are those which are shown in Name column) or build in method. The reason for the existence of these options is historical: in late 90's the Windows' own method seemed to be quite resource hog and therefore own method was developed, and in these days you probably won't see any significant difference between these methods. However, the possibility to choose between these methods is left just for sure.

If $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_USEOWNMETHODFORTITLE@C$ option is chosen, you can use the following options to change the way how file titles are formed:

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_FIRSTCHARUPPER@C$: When enabled, the first character in the title is always uppercase.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ALWAYSSHOWEXTENTION@C$: When enabled, the extension of a file is always shown in the title.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_HIDEEXTENSIONFORKNOWNTYPES@C$: When enabled, the extension of a file is not shown in the title if the extension is known (by operation system). For example, extensions are not usually shown for executable files (.exe), but for .tmp files extensions are usually shown. This is the default way how the Windows Explorer (and that Windows' method) forms the file title.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_NEVERSHOWEXTENSION@C$: When enabled, the extensions of files are never shown in the file titles.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_USESIMPLEICONS@C$: If this option is enabled, all files the result list have same generic icon. You can use this option for slow-speed media such as floppy disks, or if you have slow or off-line network shares, because reading icons for files in such shares can cause delays when the program does not answer at all. Note: file accesses are significantly reduced when $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DISABLEUPDATING@C$ or $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ICONSNOFILEACCESS@C$ option is enabled. However, icon for exe files are still read from files. Thus, if you want to completely avaid file accesses, you simple icons has to be used.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHOWFILETYPES@Cp$: If this option is enabled, Locate32 will determine file types (e.g., "Application") and shows them in the Type column. It this option is not enabled, the extension is shown in the Type column. When enabled, you can choose between options $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_USESHELLFORTYPE@C$ and $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_USEOWNMETHODFORTYPE@C$ to decide which method is used to determine file types. Like the $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_USEGETTITLE@C$ option above, the reason for these options is historical. In late 90's, the build in method seemed to be faster and used less system resources than the shell method in the system at the previous decade. However, the build in method should be a safe choise, but the shell method is left just for sure.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHOWTOOLTIPS@C$: When enabled, a tooltip showing information for a file is shown when you point the file.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SETTOOLTIPDELAYS@Cp$: You can specify delay and visible time for tooltips showing information about files. This can be useful if system defaults times are, for example, too short. When enabled, you can use $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHOWTOOLTIPDELAY@Cp$ option to specify the delay between you point a file and when the tooltip appears, and $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHOWTOOLTIPDURATION@Cp$ option to specify the time how long the tooltip will remain visible. The unit for these times are milliseconds (i.e., 1/1000 seconds).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DONTSHOWSYSTEMANDHIDDENFILES@C$: If this option is enabled, system or hidden files are not shown in the results list.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DONTSHOWDELETEDFILES@C$: If this option is enabled, the files which are deleted, moved or renamed after the last database update are not shown in the results list.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHOWONLYONCE@Cp$: It is possible that some of files are listed several times in the results list, if you have setup databases such that multiple databases contains same directories and files. You can use this option to prevent to appear multiple times in the result list. Note: This option may have large effect on CPU usage (at least when there are lots of results). Therefore it is strongly recommended to leave this option disabled and setup databases so that same directories are not included in multiple databases.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_FOLDERSFIRST@C$: If this option is enabled, the folders (directories) are shown on top in the results list.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_FULLROWSELECT@C$: When enabled, the rectangle showing current selection covers whole row in the results list, otherwise the rectangle bounds the file title.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ACTIVATEFIRSTITEM@C$: If this option is enabled, the results list is activated and the first item selected after a search is finished. The results list is not, however, activated if no results are shown.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHOWDATESINFORMAT@C$: This option can be used to specify how file dates are formatted. You can use the following elements to construct a string:
ElementMeaning
dDay of month as digits with no leading zero for single-digit days.
ddDay of month as digits with leading zero for single-digit days.
MMonth as digits with no leading zero for single-digit months.
MMMonth as digits with leading zero for single-digit months.
yYear as last two digits, but with no leading zero for years less than 10.
yyYear as last two digits, but with leading zero for years less than 10.
yyyyYear represented by full four or five digits, depending on the calendar used.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHOWTIMESINFORMAT@C$: This option can be used to specify how file times are formatted. The following elements can be used:
ElementMeaning
hHours with no leading zero for single-digit hours; 12-hour clock.
hhHours with leading zero for single-digit hours; 12-hour clock.
HHours with no leading zero for single-digit hours; 24-hour clock.
HHHours with leading zero for single-digit hours; 24-hour clock.
mMinutes with no leading zero for single-digit minutes.
mmMinutes with leading zero for single-digit minutes.
sSeconds with no leading zero for single-digit seconds.
ssSeconds with leading zero for single-digit seconds.
tOne character time-marker string, such as A or P.
ttMulticharacter time-marker string, such as AM or PM.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHOWFILESIZESINFORMAT@C$: This option specified how file sizes are formatted. The value "STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_FILESIZEFORMATDEPENGINGSIZE" means that the closest unit is used e.g., a file size of 2150 bytes is shown using kilobytes and 16000000 bytes using megabystes).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_FORMATWITHUSERLOCALESETTINGS@C$: If this option is enabled, the number part of file sizes are formatted using system regional settings. To view and change the regional settings. go to Windows' Control Panel.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SORTINGMETHOD@C$: Specifies the comparisong method which is used when items in the results list are sorted: the methods "$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SORTINGMETHODSTANDARD@P$" and "$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SORTINGMETHODSTANDARDCASES@P$" are based on ASCII value based and "$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SORTINGMETHODNATURAL@P$" and "$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SORTINGMETHODNATURALCASES@P$" considers digits in the strings as numerical content (e.g. files "file1, file10, file2" are sorted as "file1, file2, file10").

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_USEOTHERPROGRAMSTOOPENFOLDERS@C$: This option can be used to specify an other program to open directories. You need to specify a command to open the directory. In the command, the path in the command is given with %d and the select file with %f. Note that if directory or file name contains spaces, quotes should be used (e.g. "%d"). For example, if you want to open parent directory to Total Commander such that the select file is also chosen in Total Command, you can use: totalcmd.exe /O /R="%f".

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_COMPUTEMD5SUMS@Cp$: When enabled, MD5 check sums are automatically computed for files in the results list. To see MD5 check sums, "$STRMAIN_FILELISTCOLUMN_MD5SUM$" column have to be visible (see Details in View Menu to make the column visible). The computation of the MD5 sums is very slow operation (especially for large files), and it is typically worthwhile to keep this option disabled. However, even if this option is disabled, MD5 sums for selected files can be computed using $MENUPOPUP_CONTEXTMENU_COMPUTEMD5SUM$ or $MENUPOPUP_CONTEXTMENU_MD5SUMSFORSAMESIZEFILES$ commands in $MENUPOPUP_CONTEXTMENU_SPECIAL@M$ menu.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ALLOWINPLACERENAMING@C$: If this option is enabled, the files can be renamed in the results list just like in Windows Explorer. If disabled, a dialog for a new name is shown.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_HEADERINALLVIEWMODES@C$: If this option is enabled, the deader is shown in the list control also for other modes than "Details". This option requires Windows Vista or later.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_VIEWMODES@C$

This group contains options which can be used to change properties of different view modes (e.g. "Large icons" and "Details") in the results list.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_THUMBNAILSWITHMEDIUMICONS@C$: If this option is enabled, the results list shows thumbnails for images also in "Medium icons" mode.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_LARGEICONSIZE@C$: This options specifies the icon size of "Large Icons" mode. The default size is 96.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_EXTRALARGEICONSIZE@C$: This options specifies the icon size of "Extra Large Icons" mode. The default size is 256.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_UPDATERESULTS@C$

This group of options specifies that how files are updated after the files are added to the results list.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DISABLEUPDATING@C$ and $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ENABLEUPDATING@C$: These options specify whether the information shown in the result list is updated (read from files) after files are added to the list or not. In other words, if the updating is disabled, the information shown in the results list is from the used databases. Meanwhile if the updating is enabled, the information shown in the list corresponds to actual files. Note that if updating is disabled, the information which is not stored in databases is not shown (Author, Comments, File and product versions, etc). You can, however, update the selected files manually using $MENUPOPUP_CONTEXTMENU_FORCEUPDATE$ commands in $MENUPOPUP_CONTEXTMENU_SPECIAL@M$ menu.

Turning updating off can be useful if files are on low-speed media such as floppy disks or network shares, or if you want to view files which are on a non-present media such as an USB memory stick (if updating is turned on, files are regarded as deleted/renamed/moved files and file information is not shown).

If this updating is enabled, you can choose between the following options:

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DONTTRACKFILESYSTEMCHANGES@C$, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TRACKFILESYSTEMCHANGES@C$ and $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TRACKFILESYSTEMCHANGESOLD@C$: If $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TRACKFILESYSTEMCHANGES@C$ is enabled, the program listens file system changes and updates information shown in the results list when files are changed. These options have no effect on databases. The difference between new and old methods is that the old method is only notified when file system change occurs without information about changed files and the whole results list have to be checked, meanwhile the new method will get also information about changed changed file and therefore the new method is usually more efficient. However, the new method is not available on Windows 98/ME. Furthermore, the have been some stability issues in the new method, so it's worthwhile to try the old method if crashes have occurred.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_WHILESORTINGDONOTREADINFO@C$: If this option is enabled, updating is disabled when retults are sorted so that sorting is faster.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_LOCATEDIALOG@C$

This category contains the following options related to the Locate32 main dialog:

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ALWAYSSHOWRESULTLIST@C$: Normally the result list is not visible when the Locate32 dialog is opened and to make it visible you have to run a search. The results list is hidden again when you press New Search button. If this option is enabled, the results list is shown when the Locate32 is opened and it won't be hidden even if you press New Search.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_NUMBEROFNAMESINNAMEDLG@C$: This option specifies how many recent searches are shown in the list which appears when you press the down arrow on the right of the $DLGNAME_NAMED@M$ field.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_NUMBEROFTYPESINNAMEDLG@$: This option specifies how many recently used extensions are shown in the list which appears when you press the down arrow on the right of the $DLGNAME_EXTENSIONS@M$ field.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_LOOKINCOMBO@C$

This group of options can be used to change parameters of the $DLGNAME_LOOKIN@M$ field in $STRNAME_TABCAPTION@A$ tab.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_NUMBEROFDIRECTORIESINNAMEDLG@C$: This option specifies how many recently used directories are shown in the $DLGNAME_LOOKIN@M$ combo box. These directories are at the end of the list which appears when press the down arrow on the right of the $DLGNAME_LOOKIN@M$ field.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DONTSAVENETWORKDRIVES@C$: If this option is enabled, directories on network drives are not saved to the list of recently used directories in the $DLGNAME_LOOKIN@M$ combo box. Such directories are one which are specified using UNC paths (e.g., \\server\share\file) or which are on mapped network drive. If you have network shares which are slow or are often offline, this option may help to prevent Locate32 to become unresponsible (e.g. when Locate32 is started).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DONTRESOLVEDRIVEICONS@C$: If this option is enabled, the same generic icon are used for all local drives. This option can be useful if you hard drives are often in the turned off (loading icon for drive will start up this kind of drives). However, you can also try $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ICONSNOFILEACCESS@C$ instead of this option.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ADDENABLEDROOTS@C$: If this option is enabled, the list marked as "Directories included in databases" contains all directories which are included to enabled databases.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ADDALLROOTS@C$: If this option is enabled, the list marked as "Directories included in databases" contains all directories which are included to databases even if database is disabled.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DONTADDANYROOTS@C$: If this optoin is enabled, the "Directories included in databases" list is not shown at all.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_MULTIPLEDIRECTORIES@C$: If this option is enabled, you can to specify multiple directories using $DLGNAME_LOOKIN@M$. This directory can be selected using "#1" button which appears on the right size of $DLGNAME_LOOKIN@M$ field when this option is enabled. Note that even if you have not enabled this option, you can specify multiple directories using semicolon (e.g., type "C:\Windows;C:\Program Files").

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DONTSAVELISTITEMS@C$:

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_LOADTYPEFROMREGISTRY@C$: This option has an effect on Type of file combo box. If this option is enabled, Locate32 will enumerate and show all registered file types ("Application", "Text file", ...) the combo is opened first time, otherwise only few build in file types are added.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOPMOST@C$: If this option is enabled, the Locate32 dialog is always on top.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_CUSTOMDIALOGICON@C$: This option can be used specify the icon for the main dialog. The same icon is also showin in the taskbar. To specify the system tray icon, see $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_CUSTOMTRAYICON@C$ option below.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TRANSPARENCY@C$: This options specifies transparency level for the main dialog. The value is between 0-100% where 0% is fully opaque and 100% is fully transparent (not visible at all). Windows 2000 or later is required for this option.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_UPDATEPROCESS@C$

This category contains the following options for the database update process and its status tooltip:

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHOWUPDATESTATUSINTOOLTIP@C$: It this option is enabled, a tooltip showing status information for update process is shown. The appearance and other properties of the update status tooltip can be changed using the following options. Note that these options affect to the tooltips which are created after changing the options, not to tooltips which are already visible.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPTEXTCOLOR@C$, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPTITLECOLOR@C$ and $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPERRORCOLOR@C$: These options specify the color for normal text, the title and the error messages (resp.) in the update status tooltip.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPBACKCOLOR@C$: This option specifies the background color of the update status tooltip.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPTEXTFONT@C$ $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPTITLEFONT@C$: These options can be used to change fhe font for normal text and the title.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPWINDOWPOSITION@C$: This option species position for the update status tooltip. Possible choices are: $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPPOSNEARCLOCK$ (the clock in the task bar), $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPPOSUPPERLEFT$ (of the screen), $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPPOSUPPERRIGHT$, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPPOSLOWERLEFT$, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPPOSLOWERRIGHT$, and $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPPOSLASTPOSITION$ (the tooltip is moveable).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPWINDOWISONTOP@C$: This option specifies whether the tooltip is always on top. Possible choices are: $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPALWAYSONTOP$, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPTOPIFFOREGROUNDNOTMAXIMIZED$, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPTOPIFFOREGROUNDNOTFULLSCREEN$, and $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPNEVERONTOP$. If this option is set to "$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPALWAYSONTOP$", the update status tooltip will be always on top (even if you have playing games or watching video).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_TOOLTIPTRANSPARENCY@C$: This options specifies transparency level for the status tooltip. The value is between 0-100% where 0% is fully opaque and 100% is fully transparent (not visible at all). Windows 2000 or later is required for this option.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_UPDATETHREADPRIORITY@C$: This option can be used to change the priority level for database updating processes. This priority have an effect on how much CPU time this process will get from the operation system (higher priority level means more CPU time). For example, if you want to update databases on background so that it does not have much effect on system performance, you can choose "below normal" or "low" priority level. Note that each scheduled update in the auto updates tab has its own priority setting and therefore this option does not have any effect on scheduled updates.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SYSTEMTRAYICON@C$

This category contains the following options for the database update process and its status tooltip:

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DONOTSHOWSSYSTEMTRAYICON@C$: If this option is enabled, the system tray icon (the icon on left of the clock in the Windows' task bar) for Locate32 is not shown.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_CLICKACTIVATETRAYICON@C$: If this option is enabled, Locate32 dialog will be opened if you click the Locate32 icon in the system tray (otherwise double click is required).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_CUSTOMTRAYICON@C$: You can use this option to change the icon which is shown in the system tray. Only icon files (.ico) are allowed.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_MISCELLANEOUS@C$

This category contains miscellaneous options including options error reporting.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DONTSHOWEXTINRENAME@C$: If this option is enabled, the extension is not shown when renaming file using a rename dialog. This rename dialog is shown if you choose "Change Filename" from the Special menu or if you are not enabled "Explorer style renaming" option.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHOWCRITICALERRORS@C$: This option specifies whether a error message box is shown when critical errors occur. This kind of errors occurs if Locate32 was unable to open, read or write a database file, a database has corrupted. Memory allocation errors and unknown errors are also considered as critical errors. However, the error messages are usually shown in a update status tooltip or in the status bar in the Locate32 dialog even if this option is disabled.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_CONFIRMATIONFORUPDATEDATABASES@C$: When enabled, a confirmation is asked before updating is started by choosing Update databases.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHOWNONCRITICALERRORS@C$: When this option is enabled, Locate32 will shown an error message box if a noncritical error occurs. Noncritical errors occur if some directory is not available while updating databases or if "Do not overwrite existing data" is enabled for a database but Locate32 cannot keep up existing data. Noncritical errors are also shown in a update status tooltip even if this option is disabled.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ICONSNOFILEACCESS@C$: When this option is enabled, target files are not accessed when icons are loaded (icons are formed based on extension and attributes). This option can be useful if you are indexing network shares which are slow or may become offline: reading icons for such shares may cause delays when the program does not answer at all, even if the any results from such shares are not shown (delay happens when icons for "Look In:" field are read).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_USEDEFAULTDIRECTORYICON@C$: If this option is enabled, Locate32 will use the same generic icon for all directories. You can use this option if you using network shares which are slow or may become offline (reading icons may cause delays). You can also try $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ICONSNOFILEACCESS@C$ instead of this option.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SIMPLEFILEMENU@C$: If this option is enabled, File menu in the main dialog does not show shell context menu items associated for the selected file type. This significantly reduces the time to show menu. Note: this option has only effect on File menu. If you want to use a simple form for the context menu which appears when you right-click a file in the results list, go to Select Details, select "Name" and choose the action "Open context menu (simple)" for "right button click".

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_DONTMOVETOOLTIPS@C$: If, for example, a parent directory is too long to be shown in "In Folder" column, the whole name is shown in a tooltip when you point the directory directory name long enough. Normally this tooltip is placed such that it is over the directory name. However, it is observed the tooltip can steal focus from the main dialog if a "point-to-activate" focus model is used and tooltips are placed in the such way. This option can be used to prevent stealing focus in such situations.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_EXECUTEMODE@C$: This option can be used to change the way how Locate32 executes files. The $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_EXECUTEMODEDEFAULT@C$ mode uses shell function to execute files, $STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_EXECUTEMODECONTEXTMENU@C$ mode executes action for the default (bolded) item in the context menu which would appear when file is clicked uring right mouse button. This latter is little bit slower (items in the context menu has to be populated), but can work better in certain situation (like with Flexisign).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_ENABLEADDREFFIX@C$: Some shell extensions which adds extra features into File and context menu, may cause crashed and other problems while exiting Locate32. This fix tries to prevent such problems.
Technically speaking, when enabled, Locate32 increases reference counters after initializing shell interfaces (extra calls of AddRef after GetUIObjectOf and QueryInterface). Although this is agains rules (shell extensions should take care of this) and may cause memory leaks, this has been observed to prevent problems in such cases. This fix is enabled by default except in Windows Vista (these problems has not observed in Windows Vista).

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SYSTEM@C$

This group contains options to run Locate32 at system startup and to add items to the file pop up menus in Windows Explorer.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_RUNATSYSTEMSTARTUP@C$: If this option is enabled, Locate32 will be loaded when Windows is started. For that, this option will create a shortcut to Startup folder in Start menu.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_SHELLCONTEXTMENUCOMMANDS@C$

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_LOCATEINMYCOMPUTER@C$: This option creates "Locate..." item to the popup menu which appears when you right-click "My Computer" icon. This option requires Administrator privileges.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_LOCATEINMYDOCUMENTS@C$: This option creates "Locate..." item to the popup menu which appears when you right-click "My Documents" icon. This option requires Administrator privileges.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_LOCATEINDRIVES@C$: This option creates "Locate..." item to the pop up menu which appears when you right-click drives in Windows Explorer. This option requires Administrator privileges.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_LOCATEINFOLDERS@C$: This option creates "Locate..." item to the popup menu which appears when you right-click folders in Windows Explorer. This option requires Administrator privileges.

$STRADVANCEDSETTINGS_UPDATEINMYCOMPUTER@C$: This option creates "Update Database" item to the pop up menu which appears when you right-click "My Computer" shortcut. This option requires Administrator privileges.
